Steampunk Jewelry Emphasizes Beauty and Ideals
Hand made steampunk jewelry places emphasis on the value of beauty that reflects unconventional or out-of-date ideals with outstanding elements of either science fiction or fantasy, often featuring futuristic technology as the people of the 19th century, and Victorian era Britain would have perceived it to look like, based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, art, etc.

Steampunk is popular with goths, punks, cybergoths, industrial music fans, gamers, and geeks. It is a growing subculture and has been an active part of punk society for some time, especially since 2000, fueled by the internet and a growing dissatisfaction among youth with other, more prominent movements, such as goth and punk.
Steampunk jewelry is designed to mirror the culture and fashions of the steampunk subculture. Like other underground movements, steampunk values beauty that reflects unconventional or outdated ideals. Steampunk jewelry, often bold and aggressive in appearance, retains at least an echo of femininity.
The steampunk culture and lifestyle takes its cues from the Victorian era, and contemplates how our world would be different if steam power had become the motivation behind our culture.
Steampunk jewelry, influenced by science fiction, authors such as Jules Verne and H.G. Wells often has a salvaged, dark appearance generally based in brown earth tones. Steampunk jewelry seeks to reflect strength while still appearing to be feminine and intelligent.

Some of the popular items used in making Steampunk jewelry are:
Clock parts
Gears
Watch hands
Pill cases
Thread cutters
Tiny knives
Old-fashioned keys
Decorative pull-chains
Beaded chains of copper or brass
Antique typewrtiter keys
Polished brass, iron, wood, and leather items
Corsets, gowns, frock coats and top hats are often accompanied by goggles, ancillary wings, compasses and DIY accessories. To steampunkers everyday items can perform unconventional tasks. A pocket watch could be a time machine, or a compass may help you navigate through the solar system.

Gold or silver is seldom used in steampunk jewelry. Instead, brass, bronze, copper and dark silvers, brushed aluminum, titanium and gunmetal are preferred. Rich browns, ecru and shades of gray are favored over black or white or more bright new colors
in order to reflect an antique feel.
You can find heaps of Steampunk jewelry, steampunked apparel, tech and home decor online. Intricate and ornate one-of-a-kind creations bring top prices and are the most popular of all Steampunk jewelry.
